A Comparative Study of the Method of Development of Mindfulness of Luangpoh Tian Cittasubho and Thich Nhat Hanh

Abstract

  This thesis is of three objectives :- 1) to study of the development of mindfulness of Luangpoh  Tian  Cittasubho  , 2) to study of the development of mindfulness of Thich Nhat  Hanh, and 3) to comparatively study of the method of the development of mindfulness of Luangpoh Tian Cittasubho and Thich Nhat  Hanh.

From the research, it is found that the development of mindfulness in the concept of Theravada and Mahayana Buddhism is the similarity; it is to be always mindful when you are in contemplate on body, feeling, mental condition, and mind-objects which develop the meritorious thought, to retrain the de-meritorious thought, to aim for happiness in life which is the mundane and supermundane. Then, Mahayana Buddhism aims also to cultivate the Buddha-citta.
The concept of the development of mindfulness of Luangpoh  Tian  Cittasubho and Thich Nhat Hanh is the similarity, it is the development of mindfulness to control mind which is always mental activities or controlling the mind over greed, hatred, and delusion to overcome the suffering and achievement of the highest goal of Buddhism.
The method of mindfulness meditation of Luangpoh  Tian  Cittasubho  and Thich Nhat Hanh is similar, it said that using mindfulness to control their behavior, moment by moment, in main activities and sub-activities. It means that be awareness all movements. The method of practice is difference. But the method of Luangpoh  Tian is dynamic meditation, not note any words. Meanwhile, the way of Thich Nhat Hanh uses external equipment to help such as pronouncing incantations, stanza, poetry or verse, praying, or sound of music, belling stimulate to be always mindful. 
The method of mindfulness meditation of Luangpoh  Tian  Cittasubho  and Thich Nhat Hanh is the same goals, it is said that using mindfulness to control in moment by moment, to control the mind without suffering and overcome the suffering which is the highest goal of Buddhism, that is achievement of Nibbana or the end of defilements.
